A quirky small town with an idealistic protagonist and even more bizarre supporting characters that find its heart in the middle of a murder mystery that tries to spoof the genre that made shows like True Detective a mainstream hit is something I would, with all my being, recommend. Trial & Error stars the incredibly handsome Nicholas D’Agosto, the foxy Jayma Mays, the I-don’t-even-need-to-introduce-because-you-should-be-required-by-law-to-know-his-majesty John Lithgow, and somehow oddball Smash alum Krysta Rodriguez (who is so fun to watch, be it in television or off-Broadway).

Okay, so maybe I have a huge crush on D’Agosto. It’s been crazy, all those years back when he was the boy who can fly in Heroes (ever so cuddly as Wes Rosen), and for every non-casual viewer, it would be easy to spot that Glee alum Jayma Mays (also really fun to watch as the ditzy Lucy in Epic Movie) was also in Heroes (NBC) as Charlie, the waitress with photographic memory and Hiro Nakamura’s season 2 love interest. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also Cristine Rose who played my favorite Heroes character, Angela Petrelli. It truly was a mini-reunion set in a Pawnee-esque environment.

As for its protagonist, D’Agosto was also in the now-cancelled Masters of Sex (with Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan) and the movie Rocket Science (Anna Kendrick, Reece Thompson, Jonah Hill). What a stunner, this man is.

Recommendation rate: A-, it’s the new Parks and Rec, trust me. And it’s only going to get better from here.
